Hide Files in a JPEG Image using Winrar

Do you know that you can hide a file of any format (exe, txt, mp3, mpeg, avi or any other format) inside a jpeg image file. Not just that, you can actually embed many files inside a single image, not just one. For this we only need Winrar, a popular Windows compression software and a single command. After you accomplish this task, you can open and view the image like any other image with the embedded files hidden from the viewer.

Just follow these simple steps :

1. Make sure you have WinRar installed. If you don't have it, get it from here
2. Open WinRAR and drag the file(s) to its window that you wish to hide.
3. A new window will pop up. Provide any name in the "Archive name". For this tutorial, I provided the name "source.rar" (without quotes). Click OK and wait for Winrar to create the .rar archive.

4. Select a JPEG file (say image.jpg) inside which you want to hide the file(s) and copy it to a folder along with source.rar. Here I have image.jpg and source.rar put in a folder named "hidden" (without quotes) in D drive.

5. Click on the Start orb and in the search bar type"cmd" (without quotes) and hit enter to open command prompt. (XP users: click Start, then Run and type "cmd" and hit enter)
6. Change the directory to the directory in which the files are located
7. Now type :

                                         copy /b image.jpg + source.rar image.jpg

Thats it! Now if you open image.jpg file, you will see only image image.jpg. To access the hidden file(s), either change the extension to .RAR and open the file using WinRAR or simply open the file in Winrar.

  2. WinRAR can create self-extracting files as well as it can repair the damaged files. You can simply download the WinRAR software from the official website

  4. Hi...
Drag the file you want to hide into the zip folder. Open the command prompt. From here, type in the location of your file. Now, type in COPY /B followed by the name of the image, a plus, and the name of the zip folder.
